So wish me luck. It's a two hour drive to get there. Fortunately, the car dealerships are within minutes from each other...

One of these Euro compact diesels just might be our new car.

If this works out, I will remain Tentacle, Dutchman, Drives French, because I'll be looking at two examples of a 2011 Citroën C4 92 hp HDi today.

92 hp? Well, at least it undoubtedly has a manual, making it more fun to drive than 90% of the cars in America.

A 2 hours drive? In the Netherlands? Why? It's not a that uncommon car over there, is it?

ODB re-mapping will raise it to 115-118 hp, so if it turns out that 92 isn't enough, I have an option to get more.

The car is not uncommon, however regional prices differ quite a bit. So I could get one nearby but it will cost a few hundred Euro more. So it's a risk worth taking, to travel 2x2 hours to check out cars.

92hp? But why not some german secondhand power? No offense, I love the styling of the c4, but I would never buy one with such a small power-plant.

Diesel = Torque

Hope it's worth the trip! I've done 100 miles in a DS3 diesel and really liked it.

I know i know, it probably has double that figure in torque.

Probably it's not for himself but for his family.

As mentioned elsewhere, I can up that 92 to 115-118 with ODB remapping.

But this is a daily driver / long commute car, and with the fuel prices being as high as they are in The Netherlands, high MPG rating takes precedence over power.

Yup, 230 Nm (170 ft lb) at 2000 rpm. Or 1750 rpm, depending on source.

Regional differences? Care to elaborate? Not that I'm looking for a different car at the moment, but I've never heard about this before. Which regions are the cheaper regions?

I was looking for a 2011 C4 diesel with the "Ligne Business" package. Which meant including navigation as search criterium. See this link http://www.gaspedaal.nl/Citroen/C4/?bm…

The prices for the northern provinces were below €13.000 mostly. Prices in Brabant would sneak up to €13.850-13.950. As you get closer to the randstad, cars get more expensive. My 2+2 hour round trip saved be about €800-1000.
